Description Sepia full length portrait of a young girl (aged about 2 or 3 yrs.). She is wearing a dark dress and lace up boots while holding a figurine doll (that has on a light coloured dress) and sitting on an armchair (or maybe sofa). She has light coloured, thin, curly / wavy hair. The background is dark. Handwritten on the back in ink is "Clara Scarff Thompson" at the top and "Nanny / Nov. 1874". Photographer's information of the back is "W. & A. Spinks' / (SUCCESSORS TO NICHOLSON.)/ Photograph Gallery, / Over MacFarlane's Store, / OPPOSITE THE MARKET, WOODSTOCK. / Old Pictures copied and enlarged in good style. Copies to be had here by presenting the number.". The presentation card size is 10.5 Cm x 6.3 Cm (l x w).
Provenance Clara Scarff was a daughter of James S. Scarff. She was born Mar 5, 1872 and died in 1965. He was Mayor of Woodstock in 1900, 1905, 1910 and 1911. This photo is part of a set that ranges from X1982.01.382 to X1982.01.392, which are all members of the Scarff family of Woodstock. The family came from Tillingham, Essex.
